    Misfire ........then......all's fine

See if this rings any bells (or honks any horns)

The Stag is running wonderfully since a repair was carried out by Enginuity quite some time ago.

This was the case until I told my wife "The Stag is running wonderfully since a repair was carried out by Enginuity"

It's not too extreme but VER irritating.

    So....

    Start engine cold.
    Fires up
Instinct says its not firing on all 8
Drive up a hill, cold, - appalling - it has a heavy misfire like several pots aren't working.

Car gets warm - effect not so extreme.

Then - without reason - everything's going fine. Very fine.

The only human comparison I can make is Starting to talk but having a frog in your throat then clearing your throat and all is ok and you're talking fine.

    Any takers?
    Thanx in advance!!

My guess, fuel starvation. Next time it misfires or before you drive , give the float reservoirs a couple of sharp taps with a screwdriver. had similar symptoms, a few taps used to cure mine until I changed the needle valves. (it was always the drivers side that needed persuasion on mine)

    Cheers

Worth giving the inertia switch a clean as well - high resistance or intermittent current flow to the pump shows up more when fuel demand is higher, such as cold running on choke

Is the inertia switch the same as the roll-over switch?

Damp inside the dizzy cap maybe ?
Whip the cap off before the next cold start to see if moisture from the engine is condensing inside the cap when the motor cools down, a good spray of WD40 if so.
How old are the plug leads ?

Possibly - only ever known it as the inertia switch because if you bang it it pops up - the grey tube with the button by the fusebox

New cap. Infact new distributor! (The problem didn't occur near the time of fitting).

I have expensive 2/3rd" fat HT leads. I've had them fr years but they were bloody expensive. Lets just say they are of monster proportion.

Here's a quick Y/N question about the symptoms.....

Is there any reason why it could be gasket failure (or any other gasket) ?

I suppose it could have a slight possibility of a head or inlet manifold gasket weep, but it would clear in the first few seconds of running, so I think you are worried about nothing

Or to answer your question in the way you wanted, N

How did us (me) un-engineering sort live before forums?

Probably expensively via trips to specialists
