    Battery or selector

Stopped to top up on fuel. The old girl (the car) got lots of admiring glances at the pumps. Embarrassingly when I went to start there was just a click. The revotek was cooling the engine at that moment so not sure if it was the battery or the gear selector not properly positioned to allow start up. Anyway as soon as the revotek fan had stopped, I played with the selector and bingo on the button. This is not the first time this has happened.
Any ideas and recommendations what I should do / look out for? I am not really mechanically minded - just a muddling amateur.

Welcome to my world.....Just had the same symptoms. Do a search for 'stag click'. Good luck Mark

How old is your battery? If the Revotec was running, it may have been pulling enough current to prevent the starter from engaging properly. When the fan switched out, you were good to go once again.

With electrical issues, cleanliness is paramount. Check and clean the battery terminals as well as the opposite end of the cables where they bolt or mount to the engine. Any poor connection will cause issues. The ground from the engine to the battery should be inspected closely. Just don't clean the outside, but the contact area as well. Under the cable end can corrode and give you a poor ground.

Thanks Mark and Paul. I did suspect that the battery might not have enough 'oomph' in it with Revotek at full pelt. The battery is 2 and a bit years old and is standard for the Stag. In my Alvis I run a deep discharge battery as there is no alternator.
I will try and find a deep discharge battery that'll fit the Stag

Hold off on the battery for the moment Nigel - 2 1/2 years is nothing - my last Stag one lasted 6, and was a standard duty jobbie.

I'd be much more suspicious of the starter

The fact that the starter operated after you moved the gear selector around should give the first clue as to where to look - or at least the first thing to eliminate - adjustment of the starter inhibitor switch on the side of the gearbox.
Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.
