strange sound

hi
took car out today nearly 200mile trip ran great
this sound happened twice fall of a sudden and lasted for around 2 seconds and just stopped. it sounded like fan spinning on metal so we checked the main fan and all is good absolutely no movement in it and cant see were it could touch anything it has got damaged blades in the same places on the engine side but is very odd as nothing there it could possibly catch
maybe they were there before not noticed and its a completely different issue

do the usall checks,make sure theres no side ways movement in the fan,check the bolt hasnt started to come loose,and turn the fan blades to see if it hits the radiator pipe clips

I think it may be the small fan on the front of the alternator touching the jubilee clip on the bottom radiator hose. There is very little clearance down there, and the "Bottom" hoses at either end of the metal pipe need to be positioned carefully to get the maximum clearance. This also applies to the clamp halfway down the metal pipe.

I had something similar a few years ago. Worn engine and gearbox mounts. Engine moving forward under heavy braking on to the bottom hose clip. Tim

I had the same problem, if you look at the top of the bottom hose, you will find a small grove where the fan has caught the hose, a bit of fiddleing with the hose and its clamps will fix it, we hope!

I had the same problem after fitting new coolant hoses, I ended up taking a slice off the bottom hose to pull it closer to the radiator which fixed the problem.

ok moved a few clips round even though seems to be a lot of clearance is there any way of telling as tim said if the engine mounts or gearbox mounts are gone .

Mine were that bad the fan marked the rad. I think its a uprated rad though
