    Seat belts

I have 'lap' seat belts in the back of the stag.

I always get worried when my 8 y/o refuses to seat up front

I've seen various stories abut the 3 point seat belts +ve and -ve.

I've come to the forum of all forums to ask....... what is your opinion ?

And - of course - thanks for your info !!

    Definitely yes.
Added advantage, you don't need to bolt the seatback in place, so if the tonneau/hood release cables fail, no problem!

Have just fitted 3 point inertia to the rear of mine. Really don't like lap belts. My Mk 2 had a cut out in the rear panels for the belt to travel through, just needed to slit the vinyl and fit some belt sleeves over the vinyl.. Used Peugeot / Xantia sleeves sourced on ebay, which finish things off. CIMG6373.jpg

Nice finish jonfey. Curious how and where you mounted the 3 point in the rear? Mine has 3 point in the rear that would have been dealer fitted in the 70's, and unfortunately not inertia.

            Thank you.

I'll try to get some pictures and post them.

The difference with these is that on modern cars the "pull" or inertia part of the belt comes over the shoulder.

With this fitment, the inertia belt is mounted low down on the side and so pulls out from the rear side panel.

Because the inertia reels are not handed, one has to be fitted upside down. There is a lever on the reels which allows for it to operate like that.

Here's a picture of the reel fitment position. I bought the belts from Tony Hart. Brackets and instructions are included. Hope this helps.CIMG6374.jpg

From memory, for two belt sets plus brackets, bolts and instructions, it was just under £100 plus postage.

Woah - I had a dream (a really boring one) about reading the response to my question and all the answers said that lap belts are the only safe way to go - and three-point is dangerous.

                    What a stupid dream.
Anyway - not remembering it was a dream I came back to the forum to take a look only to find big thumbs up on the 3 point idea.

Am I going mad ? (no need to answer).

                    So.........
Right now - is there a supplier of 3-point belts that suit the rear of a Stag - is easy to fit - and recommended by yourselves. I saw the 'Tony Hart' bit but I dont think he has a shop or anything

Thanks for all your responses! This is a friendly forum (unlike the Lotus one for some reason!!!!)

Tony Hart lists them in his eBay shop.

His online shop is here: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/tonyhartstagparts/

Grimmers and other do the belts too, but I used Tony.

Fitted a set of Tony Harts belts last week. Easy enough job but you do have to drop the rear shocks out of the way to drill the rear suspension turret as this becomes the 3rd mounting point. Also a good idea to run a tap through the existing mounting holes to clean them out, 7/16 I think.
I used some MGF seatbelt guide plates to tidy around the holes in the rear cubbie panels where the belts come through.
                            Very pleased with the results.
Don't often carry passengers in the rear but I understand it's now illegal to transport a dog on the rear seat if it's not harnessed in.
