Hi All. New member and first post!! Bought my '74 mk2 earlier this year and hope to meet some of you at some stage at a meet. Been running great but today began to run fast (12-1500 rpm) once warmed up. Will try it tomorrow to see if it's better cold but wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to the possible cause before I blindly investigate those tricky carbs?? Thanks in advance. Dave.

David,
Process of elimination, firstly check that the throttle is returning fully and not sticking, whether this be something simple like a floor mat catching the accelerator, the cable sticking or the throttle mechanism on the carbs sticking - including the choke cable possibly sticking, holding the throttle.
Once you know this is OK, then check the carb diaphragms and that the pistons in the carb are not sticking.
After that you need to be looking for air leaks or collapsed vacuum pipes etc.
If it's been OK for a while, it could be something simple like the throttle sticking and needing lubricating, don't look for complicated issues 'til you've checked the simple ones.

There's nothing tricky with the original Stromberg CD175 carbs, I was a newcomer to this type of carb (indeed it was many years since I tinkered with any carbs) and I've found them very easy to refurbish and set up. Theres a lot of great information both on this Forum, in the ROM and on the excellent American Buckeye Triumphs website here; http://www.buckeyetriumphs.org/?page_id=347
Good luck with tracking your fast running problem down.I love deadlines - I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by!
