I have a MK1 with an 18ACR fitted, can't remember too much about the brackets being a problem but the wiring required considerable modification as the mk1 has a separate regulator.

OK Cheers,
I have a MK2 but my engine parts came from a Mk1- hence the uncertainty! OK then I can scratch that from my next UK order.
I actually have a Bosch 90 amp jobby that is a common replacement for the 18ACR over here, From a 90's Saturn, but if you rotate the front its' apparently a direct fit for an 18ACR,
OK so I think I understand the difference between Mk1 and Mk2. The mk2 has a bracket that seems to be nearer 90 degrees and the mk1 more like 120 degrees. (I think that's because the 18ACR is smaller than the 11AC)
But I may have hit a snag with this replacement Bosch alternator. The body is pretty close to the mounting "ears" and It will not swing closer than an inch or so from the engine/bracket, as shown in the picture. I have a feeling that I will need to get it closer or it will foul the bodywork..
Its 8 inches from the center of the crankshaft to the center of the alternator, a further 3 inches to the outer edge of the alternator.. Will it fit??
Should it need reworking my initial idea is to fabricate some kind of bracket to drop the alternator down enough to pick up that Mk1 bracket..
Not having done this myself, I believe that relocating an alternator to the top of the engine is possible. There are kits available to achieve this.
Can anyone advise Terry?
Paul
Thanks Paul, but as I am considering resurrecting the A/C system (it gets bloody hot over here!) I was going to leave it there - for now anyways
As I cannot quite get the standard fan belt on I'm guessing I will need to mess with the top mounting to allow it to tuck right into the engine.
Given the 11AC is a larger diameter I'm hoping it would "stick out" a bit more anyway, so maybe a bit of grinding here and there will suffice. I have just realised that a trip to the container at my mates place where all my spare bits, (and the car) is sitting is needed to find the 11AC so I can mount it and take some measurements.
