Oh for the good old days, cos in the 70s I would have tried to pick up such skills on my first car if the problem had arisen on my Mk11 Cortina.
Would have stood me in good stead for buying a Stag in my 60s!
Somehow learning new skills and absorbing information does not come quite so easily now.
If I am lucky in the next couple of days I will get progress. My hope at the moment is that I will find an experienced local member who will do it with me, or a professional who may be prepared to let me be his apprentice while he does the job!
Having been a member of this club for 2 years I am finding plenty of encouragement to be optimistic that problems can be resolved and skills learnt, but just finding this second year a bit more painful on the pocket than year 1. Maybe that was just beginners luck, time will tell

When my HG failed, the system pressurised. I undid the rad filler and fitted small adaptor and a funnel, then watched as the coolant would rise up, expel gases then the level would drop down again, then repeat itself.
I only do what the voices in my wife’s head tell me to do!

Sounds like hgf to me. I had the same symptoms.
You can confirm it with one of these test kits https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/28234084550...25.m3641.l6368

It ain't necessarily so! I tested mine with a similar kit, the kit said "no problem" but the LH head gasket had failed as revealed by later dismantling.

I had the same result when I took mine into a Stag specialist for testing.

              Hi all
can now confirm that it was definitely HGF . Now stripped out and head had a light skim, no serious corrosion, so all being put back together in the next couple of days and should be back on the road by the end of the week. Paying for professional help, but my guy has been very quick in getting me back on the road, so no complaints. Hope that this will sort me out for a good while.
              Thanks all for the info/suggestions/guidance

              Cheers
              Nick
