    Steering Rack Replacement

Received my nice shiny replacement steering rack today.
Plan to fit this weekend. Have a couple of questions

    1. Do I need to bleed the rack when I reconnect to the power steering pump
and resevoir to get the air out?

    2. how to ensure the correct wheel alignment for the new rack ( count old threads?)

Never done this before but looks quite straight forward job in the manual

    1. Fill the reservoir. Start the engine. Turn steering wheel from full lock to full lock a few times. Top up fluid. Job done.

    2. Good starting point. If the new rack has been assembled differently to the old one, you may have to remove the steering column from the intermediate shaft to ensure that the indicator cancelling feature is still aligned.

You may struggle to get the intermediate shaft onto the splines. If it is tight open up the clamp by carefully driving a wedge (small chisel or screwdriver) to open the clamp then it will fit easily and then tighten with the through bolt. Replace the nylock nuts as a matter of course. Good luck, it's straightforward but a typical stag fiddle!

Hi, I am also going to be changing my steering rack which is leaking for a spare i have in my parts bin. I hope then to re-condition my leaking rack. Thanks for the tips.

The rubber parts of the Steering Rack mounting brackets are perished.
When I look to replace I am not sure what to order. Have seen either Steering Rack Mounting Bush and
Steering Rack Mount Cotton Reel Section Bush (inc. SS Tube) - pack of 4. Am I correct these are the
parts for the above but what is the difference?

Do I need any special tools to push these into place?

Regarding rhe removal of the track rod end.
Looking for a splitter tool many on the market.
Was wondering which ones are the best fit for the stag.

              Any recommendations appreciated

I used one of these splitters a bit awkward to get on, but kinder I think, I also replaced my bushes with poly, you pull the bush in with a bolt/studding as other bushes and fit the ss sleeves afterwards , use the silicone grease provided. hope that helps.

Made this push/puller for trailing arm bushes

P1060685.jpgjust to give you the idea of how to fit them.
