Unfused 12V supply for headlight mods - where from?

    Hi

Having abandoned an "all 4" headlight upgrade last year due to some confusion on my part and proposed circuits having errors, I have decided to try again as my headlights are pathetic sealed beams.

I have designed my own circuit which is similar to a modified Grampian Stag circuit but only employs 4 not 6 relays.

However I will need to install 2 new 12V feeds ( left and right)and whilst I can obviously pick these up at the battery this IMHO would be untidy.

Where else can I conveniently and tidily pick up 2 15A supplies or 1 30A to be split near relays? Both to be suitably fused before relays of course.

Back of fuse box maybe But having never looked at this would like confirmation that this is best from others more familiar with Stag electrics.

    Thanks

    H

Might have better luck at the solenoid!

Wouldn't take it from the fusebox - lower volts drop in the circuit advantage would be reduced.

Radio feed, tune to the light programme or current affairs.

If you follow the battery to starter motor cable you will find a small black housing secured to the bulkhead. Disconnect the battery and prise open the cover to this housing and inside you will find several 10mm Lucar male connections, taken straight off of the battery cable. This is where i have taken my feed to the headlights and Kenlowe fan from, use heavy duty cable and sub-fuse, makes a neat installation. Hope this is of help, PM me if you would like pictures of my installation.

When I was a young lad, every Saturday night I used to dash home to listen to Jack Jackson playing all the latest Top Twenty hits on the radio.
I can't remember though whether it was on Radio Luxemburg or Radio Caroline, can anyone tell me?

Thanks but cannot find this on my car. Cable goes direct to solenoid. Is this possibly a consequence of different layout of solenoid and starter on RV8 conversion? Or perhaps my Stag is non standard?

According to Wiki, Caroline ran from '64. My recollection is that the top 20 was Sunday nights 22:00 - 24:00. Had an old valve radio in my bedroom, but the quality of reception from Lux was pretty rubbish in Lancashire.

I do not remember him on either station in the late 50's and 60's and always associated him with the Light programme. This seems to be confirmed by Wikipedia who do however state that he was on Radio Luxembourg in the late 1930's .....but I didn't think you were that old Terry?

Mine has a 60A cable running from the battery terminal, through the front valence, strapped to the existing wiring harness that's secured just above the air inlets behind the bumper. A shorter cable run would be from the starter solenoid terminal but that's harder to get access to. There's a seperate 30A cable for the fan running the same way.

There's a 4-fuse box on the inside front wing, above the expansion bottle, and my 4-relay plate is attached to the front panel behind the horns.

I can't see why anyone needs 6 or even 4 relays for headlights - my four relays do Main / Dip / Spotlights / Fan. The Main relay also allows the Spotlights relay to energise if the Spot switch is operated, but as I only fit the Cibié lights when I'm doing a night rally or something that relay usually does nothing.

Thanks what sort of connection do you use at the battery terminal? The four relay circuit I have developed uses the standard main and dip feeds in combination with the new feed with 2 relays for left and 2 right . However using a 60A new feed could I can see result in 2 relays feeding both pairs of lights.

Be interested to see your lighting circuit arrangement - there's always more than 1 way to skin a cat. Agree it can be done with a couple of relays, depends which configuration you want and the redundancy to limit the possibility of a single point of failure causing a blackout.

Certainly not - it was my parents radio - a Cossor valve model if I rightly recall, but I thought it was Luxembourg, but could be wrong, and if I liked a new record I heard I would go out and buy it the following week on Chorley Market, 78s to begin with, but then 45s to play on my Dansette record player.
