I’ve just ordered a mechanical temp gauge to fit in place of the electric one, am I right in assuming The temp bulb fits in the same place as the electric sender?

Dunno about the mechanical water temp gauge, my capillary water/oil gauge goes into the RH Transfer housing as opposed to the original in the LH Transfer housing.

Ah.
Mine may not have been standard to begin with then, as the electric water temp transmitter was fitted to the RH head (as you look from the front of the engine), and all I did was to fit a thread conversion piece that gave enough "height" for the capillary bulb to seat into (otherwise it bottoms out).Header tanks - you can't beat a bit of bling.

I already have a mechanical (capillary) oil gauge in place of the clock, so my plan is to replace the existing electric water temp gauge using the existing threaded fitting for the current sender.

That’s very helpful, I think Drew is referring to the heads as looking from the drivers seat!

Must admit to being lost why people quote right hand looking at the engine. I can see it now: "Yes officer, he did crash into me although I was indicating to turn right with my right hand indicator" Officer: "was that the right hand indicator looking at the car from the front or from behind the car sir?"Last edited by dasadrew; 28 September 2017, 20:40.The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137
