    Reversing lights not working

The reversing lights on my Sept 72 late Mk1 Stag have not worked since I bought it. It's a BW35 auto.

How do I get at the switch and are replacements (Rimmers RTC1150) difficult to install?

Edited to add I've just now found a forum reference to an inspection panel in the passenger footwell, I'll give that a look first.

Never needed to get to the g'box switch (mines MOD anyway)- someone will be along soon if it's harder than you think (there are 2 x switches on the gearbox, the other being the Start inhibit except in P or N). However, before you go the hard route, suggest you check the easier stuff, like bulbs (it's possible for both filaments to have failed), holders, wiring. A meter might be useful.

On the BW35 there is just one switch with four terminals. Two are the starter inhibit that only allow the starter to operate when in Park or Neutral. The other two are for the reversing lights.

As you have already found you can access the switch through a small panel in the passenger side of the transmission tunnel. It is tight but it can be done.

As Jonno says before diving in and getting a new switch check that this is the problem. Remove the access panel and connect the two reverse light wires together. With the ignition turned on the reverse lights should work, if they do then there is a problem with the switch, if they don't then the problem may lie elsewhere.

The switch may not be faulty but may just need adjusting. There are precise instructions on how to do this in the R.O.M. (Repair Operations Manual). It is a fairly critical adjustment and worth checking before replacing the switch.

If you do need a new one then search for RTC1150 - thats the JLR part number - David MAnners group has them for £18.50

Not sure what the p&p is though.

Thanks Roger and Jonno, that gives me the starting clues I was looking for.
