Odd Oil level

Been a member a year and found the threads and death of knowledge of the Sage's on this Forum invaluable in maintaining my Stag. I have a question, I have changed the oil and oil filter on my Stag and filled with 5 litres of Valvoline (whole container), the manual states it should take 5.1 L with an oil fitter change, but when I check the dip stack it is pointing about 5mm above the full line, odd, and I have run the car a few times to make sure good distribution. The filter is a spin on large type Mann W719/15 (replace what was there).
Any ideas why with only 5L of oil it should show so high?

Your 1st line typo is so true.
You can't drain all the oil out as some remains in galleries crank etc. I fill to the max on dipstick and have some left in the can.

Oil level depends massively on the straightness of the dipstick, even which way round it is inserted due to it entering the oil at a 45 degree angle. If you have put the correct amount in, then the level should be about right, even if the dipstick says it isn't!
