    Windscreens.

Can anybody comment on the quality / fit / appearance of modern windscreen replacements please?

I had a stone crack mine yesterday and will be needing a replacement when the car comes back from having some work carried out.

Should I hold out for an original Triplex?

    Thank you.

I purchased a tinted screen 'off the shelf' from a windscreen replacement firm, doubtless it wasn't original, I had had no difficulties fitting it, and in the car it is 'just a screen'.
Your wife is right, size matters. 3.9RV8

Thanks for that. With regard appearance, I fitted a replacement to a previous classic. It had large black, block "E" rated graphics etc. Just wondered how discreet they might be on the Stag ones. ( I know.... a bit anal !! )

Whatever you do, get the trim fitted at the same time.

I had mine replaced with through my car insurance. the first time they came out they didn't have a new seal but still wanted to replace the screen. i wouldn't let them do it as the seal was old, proper old. They eventually did it with a new seal.

I didn't want the green sun bit as it ruins my view of the road. The good thing with the insurance is that the screen cost more than my insurance, in fact i took my insurance out to get the screen done.

I too had my screen damaged by what I assume was a stone thrown up by a lorry passing in the other direction. My insurance company put me in touch with National Windscreens in Halesowen who did a magnificent job. Replaced the screen and sealing rubber in a few hours. They also sealed the glass to the rubber and the rubber to the body work. Really good job. Hope this is helpful.

O.K. " The green sun bit". Is that a tinted strip that runs across the top edge? Haven't seen one of those. Sounds nice. I wonder if that's the option called "tinted" in Rimmers catalogue or maybe "tinted" refers to a slight tint across all the screen.

Sounds a good job done. Are you happy with themodern markings on the screen?

                    Jonfey.
I know from experience that some aftermarket screens are difficult to fit. I had one that was slightly oversize and the Autoglass fitter had a terrible time with it. I do know that Triplex still supply them to the original specification. I would advise whoever is fitting your replacement to get a decent one as they are difficult enough to fit at the best of times. The insurance company is not going to insist that you fit a cheap one.

                      Hi Jonfey

Just checked the markings on my screen. It's a Triplex Sundym Laminated screen. So yes I am very happy with the screen and the fitting.

Hope this is useful information for you.

It does indeed seem that fit is a little "hit and miss" according to who manufactures the replacement screen then.

                        Good to know. Thanks Mike.

Who supplied your screen please? Are they available direct from Triplex or did you use a retailer?

I see you're in Birmingham. Not far from me.
