As with all simple questions - they are only simple if you know the answer

How do you remove the Bakelite handle and aluminium collar from the auto gear selector lever??

Look closely at the aluminium collar. This will have a hole in it. Find an Allen key, or similar, to stick in the hole and steady the collar, whilst you turn the T-handle anti-clockwise. The collar is a lock nut for the handle.
