    Helicoil

    Sorry, more questions.

Have been going through what I will be doing with my Stag and what parts to get for when the weather gets warmer ( A month or two away I know ). I have been going through lots of past posts reading as much as I can. One thing seems to be a problem that is removal of bolts ( Rear Hubs etc)causes threads to strip so requiring a helicoil. Are there sizes that are "common" on the Stag. Reason for asking is there are kits that have many sizes but whenever I buy a kit like this ( Nuts / Bolts ) there are always lots that never get used. So what would you suggest I get so if I have a problem I would have the correct sizes ready to use.

As always many thanks for any replies and sugestions.

    Hi Don

As you have the Straight Six you will only need the one's for the rear trialing arms which are I think 1/4 UNF you will need one kit plus extrawire insertswhich are available separately.

If you had the TV8 you would also need 5/16 UNC and 3/8 UNC! I talk from experience:X

I had a massive issue with stripped threads - helicoil heaven - until I identified that my torque wrench was hoplessly ineffective in its lower range. I now use a more basic wrench with a pointer and scale rather than a click type.

I use the old torque wrench for hammering nails into concrete :P

        Hi Don,

The studs on the trailing arms are actually 5/16" UNF and the drill size you need is 21/64". (I had a kit on standby for my rear end rebuild but didn't need them fortunately). I bought mine from http://www.atsite.co.uk. (No personal connection). The kit contains 12 inserts so enough if you strip all 12 studs .

As Richard says above, make sure you have a good torque wrench, the threads are easy to strip.

        Regards

        Dave
