    Wilwood brakes

Has anyone fitted a kit of the current type sold by those great guys at Robsport and if you have, are they plain vented discs or slotted/holed vented discs?

I only ask as having purchased a set they have arrived with slotted/holed discs and i'm slightly concerned I may end up with noisy brakes a little like I have on the Cooper S - this produces a sort of rumble on heavy braking which can be quite annoying.
I'm probably being a bit daft really as having fitted Greenstuff pads there was a noticeable improvement but I quite fancied the look of the Wilwoood kit - the build quality is excellent and the calipers are much lighter plus the pad area is around 15% greater.

    Cheers,
    Mike

      Hi Dave,

Thanks for that - that's how they are shown on their website but the ones that turned up in my order are drilled and slightly slotted.

With you having 16" wheels, Chris Witors 11" Wilwood kit would have been nice!

I do rate the Wilwood calipers. Possible the best value for money i have found. If you fit them with Yellow Stuff pads then they are unreal, using their Wilwood Racing pads then the first few applications can be a bit of a concern but it does get a lot better once warm.

I have them fitted Mike with plain vented discs, they are superb the stopping powe is way beyond the original brake set up so there is no comparison.i run mintex pads ,had this set up for a couple of yrs now wont ever go back . stagdad had drilled discs quite noisy, fluttering noises heard on braking i guess it was air trapped in holes then released ....we all been there oops.............

Thought about this Mike but close on £1,000 for a set is quite steep.....

I thought too the extra disc diameter might make them just a bit too sharp..

I have wilwoods with vented discs on the stag and they are brilliant, and silent, I have wilwoods with vented and slotted discs on the midget, they are also brilliant but I tend to get a sort odd 'whizzzzz' noise off them which I suspect is down to the slots.

I wouldn't change back but if i'm being honest, under normal driving, the Stag is probably overbraked until I go enthusiasticly touring the countryside where they give more confidence. The Midget is certainly overbraked in normal conditions but it is more for enthusiastic driving and track days where the difference is well appreciated.

I use Greenstuff pads but as Bullstasz indicated the harder yellowstuff may well be the better pad.

I didn't think of that as it happens whenever I brake fairly hard on any surface but I suppose could be - it just feels like the pads going over the rotors but on the mini discs the slots run from inner to outer edge but the Wilwood discs the slots are only part way, not to the edge maybe to alleviate that noise a little...

Rob's have said they'll swap them for plain ones if I wish so not too sure now whether to keep them anyway, the certainly look good a bit like these

I have Willwoods with plain vented discs. I get brake judder from them, running with Mintex 1144 pads which might be the cause as they are soft pads and so grip more but last less. Thinking of downgrading to something like Greenstuff or Willwoods own brand.
