    Replacement Heater Knobs

ALL , just ordered some heater knobs from James Paddocks as mine are one by one starting to fail as the old plastic becomes brittle.
Tried fitting one of them and it doesn't want to locate on the prong that comes out of the heater unit. Don't want to force it and break them so was looking for advice suggestions?
Any ideas ? My car is a MKII 1975. Did they change the heater controls at all and you know if one of the other suppliers may have knobs that will fit?

I can only talk of my own expereience, but when I bought some I was annoyed that they were very loose. Then I discovered that the replacement ones didn't come with the little spring clip which goes on the lever tang / or in the plastic grip itself. I transferred the metal spring clip from my old knobs and all was OK. Maybe the new replacement ones have the metal clip inside them and your metal clips are still hanging on to the lever tang? (so you're trying to fit one effectively with two metal clips?)

Thanks Drew, Ill have a look for that. I assumed they just slid on the levers , didn't know there was a clip !

Mine don't have clips, they just push on and are a tight fit, I think TR 7 are the same type

I’d agree, I think the ones that have spring clips are the seat back release knobs, not the heater controls.

To be honest, I think I'd have noticed if I'd mistakenly fitted seat back knobs to my heater controls!

Sadly the clip doesn't appear to be available, I've been looking for some for months after the wife "adjusted" the heater and thought she'd broken it .

Rimmers only list "Used" and they are shown as not available, same with the other suppliers I've tried.

I suppose if you need a spring in your knob, it could work..

Is back seat knob another name for a back seat driver?

Hi all .Ive taken the Hot cold knob off and fitted it to the Fresh Air Control which had broken. I the put new Paddock one on the Hot and cold and it eventually slid on. Cant see a metal clip anywhere so not sure how they should be fitted!! Just hope the other old ones don't fail ...

Think I have an spare heater knob that the plastic is broken but the clip is still in place. You can have it if it's any use to you

                              Cheers
