I used Classic Car LEDs and there was a marked improvement. I don't have a before pic but this is the after pic for what it's

Think you've answered your own question, Gazza. I've had good results from http://bettercarlighting.co.uk/ as have others. They do very good kits for the Warning Cluster. Classic Car LED have also had many positive mentions on here. A search may be helpful to you.
with LEDS the bulbs have to be the colour that you wish to see a clear LED shone through a Green filter will not be green.
I have LEDS thoughout the car Red for brakes and rear orange for Indicators clear for sidelights etc
They are brilliant in every sense of the word!
