I have been suffering oil in the V for a while, not from valve covers and having checked the torque on the head bolts i think i ruled that out. Ordered a new o ring from James Paddock for 89p that arrived next day. Removed the disi without marking rotor position (ooops!) And found it had no seal so quick job new seal on then slapped everything back together thinking timing cant be that far out ! But it was.
I didnt want to take the rad off and move the pulley to tdc as its to cold and thats lots of work. So cranked and cranked for a while until randomly hitting 4 degrees after TDC. Best i would get i decided, put her all back together rotor pointing at coil bolt or nearly and then to my amazement the engine started. Put the strobe light on and timed her to 16 degrees btdc. Same setting as usual.
Question is do we think this is 12 deg btdc? Or is the amount of adjustment giving lots of room for error and actually the starting point 4 deg after tdc is fine anyway. I can advance further and with electronic ignition and skimmed heads maybe i can.
Will do a few miles and confirm if the oil in the V has been resolved.
Question 2 can the fan be removed leaving the torque thingy in place again without removing the rad? Fitted an ewp and electric fan and really dont need the viscous but again bit cold to mess with radiators looking for short cut.
Thanks for any advice greatly appreciated guys.
