Early Xmas present(s) for my Stag

In another Thread I mentioned that I was having my Allycat Rallye Alloys refurbished and new tyres fitted as both are over 17 years old. The garage doing the job has just emailed saying the alloys and tyres are done and they are just awaiting the return of the radiator which had developed a leak and is being repaired. Will post pictures when I get the car back.

In addition meanwhile I have been testing a Tenerife Map SatNav out on my Samsung Tab2 7" Tablet and also my Leagoo smart phone (both former presents), but been testing them in the wife's Honda whilst the Stag is away.
Got "Off Line Maps & Navigation" to work fine on the Tablet (less well on the smart phone), but prefer the look of "Tom Tom Go mobile" maps which I am also currently testing on both (both free s/ware Apps I have downloaded).

One or other of my son & daughter are going to get me car holders for both phone & tablet for my Birthday (in a few weeks time), so can go in the Stag when I get it back and am out exploring new places on the Island.

That means the Stag should be happy this Xmas as it's getting a number of presents, and will probably do better than I will! .

It's been Christmas every week for my stag since i got it terry and it has done better than me the last couple of months. But... I sense the tide is turning and after the pain the pleasure may be about to start. (fingers crossed). look forward to the pic's of the wheels. New box of bits just arrived by courier, that's my evening sorted Chris.

Hi Terry, I have an iPhone and downloaded the Spanish version of Navmii, its a free download and I have managed to navigate to a few places I know in Spain from England but have not actually tried it out in Spain. Maybe you could try it and let me know what you think. Over here I use Tomtom.
      Cheers Mark

O.K. will give it a go and let you know. At 1st I wasn't sure if downloading a map of Spain would include the Canaries (which are not in Europe but off the coast of Africa), but both the "Off Line Maps & Navigation" s/ware and "TomTom Go" do, so I see all my local roads, and if I travel to more of the Canary Isles in the car (which I do), should work fine on those roads also.

Probably going to Gran Canaria on the Ferry (with the Honda not the Stag as there are 4 adults) next year as it is the brother-in-law's 65th birthday and he wants to go there, and we took the Honda earlier this year to Gran Canaria to meet up with my son and family who were staying at the Radisson Blue in "Puerto Mogan" which is our favourite place there.

Mark - I downloaded NAVMii and tried it, but had some difficulty as it couldn't find some local places nearby which both "Offline Maps" and "TomTom Go" had no trouble with, and it seemed very slow in trying to set up a route compared to the other two. The screen display is also inferior (IMO) to both Offline Maps and TomTom, so I have uninstalled it and will make a final decision on whether to use Offline Maps or TomTom when I have tried them in the Stag which I still haven't yet got back. Like I said previously both those work here in the Honda on local trips I have been on, and the software for both is free. Navmii also kept bringing up adverts when loaded which was annoying.

Cheers Terry, thanks for trying, Mark

Just picked up my Stag from the Garage who - refurbished my Alloys, fitted new tyres all round, and had the radiator re-cored.
Pic below shows the new wheels & radiator plus new brake master cylinder that I also had to have fitted a few weeks ago.

The alloys look good, Terry. I'm sure you will feel safer now that you have new rubber on them.

Having now got my Stag back, I made an adaptor for my cheap smartphone so it can plug into the central fresh air vents (like an air freshener) for use as a SatNav when out exploring. Both the phone and the dashcam can both be powered by a twin USB cigar lighter socket plug that is on order. When not driving I can simply remove the smartphone (and likewise the dashcam).

Having experimented with a few Offine SatNav navigation packages I have at the moment opted for TomTom Go which is a free App and the Map of Spain I downloaded includes Canary Islands roads.

The look of my Stag's cockpit is now a little non-standard, as can be seen by the picture below. The "Zapper" is for the entrance door to an underground garage in which I rent a space (for when I go to the U.K.), and the "Zoom" sound recorder is attached to the microphone in the rear bumper for recording the exhaust sound. The overtaking mirror is a Spanish requirement on RHD cars. I put a cut off switch on the radio feed to stop it draining the battery when the engine is not running.

Have now got 4 weeks where I can enjoy driving the Stag before flying out for the New Year, and the Sun is it's normal self and shining brightly.

                    Hi Tdm

On the subject of Sat nav apps for mobiles - I use Waze . I have found it exceptionally reliable and it works well abroad too.
It was James Bond's colour... Saffron Yellow is so cool :-)

Hi David, I did try Waze but had problems with it over here, and so far happy with TomTom Go.
