MandM - where did you get the posts, they look very neat?

I take it that no one has used the Rimmers Emergency Kit
Ah yes, back to your original question. I bought one, looked at it - thought Junk. Spoke to my mech who agreed, so consigned to the bin.

This sounds quite a long way from my technical ability .

I've found some parts on the CBS site, all I have to do now is drill some holes!

Thanks Jonno I'll give that a miss.

Mine must be the only Stag without this mod.

No, there are at least two, yours and mine! I haven't bothered with mine as I have never had a bonnet release cable break on any other car and don't see that the one on the Stag is any different or inherently any less reliable.

I personally haven't bothered either I ensured I have a good fixing plus a good end of cable attachment. Not that I don't think it's a great idea.

Me neither, but the hassle of opening a Stag bonnet if the cable breaks makes it an obvious option. Additionally, it is convenient to be able to open the bonnet from either side when doing maintenance checks, rather than walking around or stretching across.

I agree it is a good idea if you have time to do it. Lots of things on my to do list already and if I'm honest no matter how many "tu it's" I get, round or otherwise, I don't think I'll ever get time for this. If the original breaks then I think it would take me less time to get the bonnet open and fix the original than it would to fit a second one.

A simple quick solution for an ‘emergency’ bonnet release is to wind some gardening wire around the post on the lever, pass it over the scuttle , make a loop at the end, Close the bonnet and tuck the loop into the gap between the bonnet and the air intake. I did this some years ago when I started doing long distance runs such as the RBRR.

                    Hi All,
If the plate is hard all you only need a Cobalt drill bit, these will go almost anything but MUST be kept lubricated at all times.

Here is my version with the cable ending inside the speaker housing. I welded a little lever onto the mechanism to be able to pull in the axial direction--if ever needed.

Just a friendly observation but I would tuck those wires under and use a few cable ties to secure. The worry is they will shift and be speared by the bonnet latch. Being a live wire it could get messy.

That's very careful Edd. My picture is from 2010 and I posted it just to demonstrate that there is another routing posibility for the safty cable of the catch. Meanwhile I have installed a Retro Sound speaker so it looks different now in the speaker cavity.
