    Wheel Cleaning Spray

    Hi All,
A mate of mine told me about a wheel cleaning spray called "Dragon's Breath" by Valet Pro. I don't know if it is available in the UK or elsewhere but it has just come to market in Australia. If you have wire wheels it makes cleaning them a pleasure. I thought mine were clean but this product bought them up as good as new. Much better than the Autoglym product I normally use I've got no connection to the company but wanted share what I think is a great product. There are some You Tube videos of its effectiveness.
    regards,
    Raoul

It's available on Amazon, although I'm sure there's other outlets available. I might give it a go as when I cleaned my wire wheels before the winter lay up it took over 3 hours with Solvol Autosol.

With a view to a somewhat more permanent solution has anyone any knowledge of possibly using some sort of clear lacquer to coat chrome wires to seal them against dirt and corrosion? I once used some yacht varnish on the alloy wheels of a Triumph 2.5 PI but they had been bead blasted and weren't chromed. It did protect them from salt and winter muck

Lacquer is good for a short time then the moisture gets underneath it and ugly corrosion sets in which is hard to get to because of the lacquer.

That was my concern Alan. If the lacquer chipped or lifted it may the a hell of a job to redo the coating

Whatever lacquer / varnish etc you use, it will only yellow over time and then be a pig to remove in my experience

Chrome is a smooth shiny surface, nothing will "stick" to it properly. You will be wasting your time trying to spray with lacquer as it WILL chip and come away VERY easily. I have "black" spoked wheels on my road bike (bicycle!) The spokes are made from stainless steel with a smooth surface, the black finish on the spokes is very chipped from debris on the road - and that is on a push bike that does an average of around 20MPH. Any lacquer on chromed spokes wouldn't stand a chance. Give them a good clean and thick coat of wax polish every few months to keep the chrome sealed and stop moisture getting beneath the chrome and corroding the steel beneath.
