    Warning lamps

Does anyone else have a dashboard similar to mine with just the brake warning light between the rev counter and speedo and was the map reading lamp an option? I feel rather inadequate with so few lamps:?

Is your car a MK1.5? The MK1's had a dash like yours with the reading lamp on the glove box. the MK2's had more lights on the dash and no reading light.

As Dave says, your car looks correct for a production about 1973 - 1975 ish

Just like mine, white, early 1973 build, registered September. The map light went with the Mk1 but there was a gradual phasing in of the Mk II bits.No seat belt warning light, and a single light in the T-bar.Wiring for the courtesy lights, and indeed the doors and their fitments are as Mk1.

I think I read somewhere that the footrest was not fitted to these cars. I know I got mine from Martin at Justriumph.

          Dave,

Build date was 20th December 1972, registered 16th Jan 1973 - does that qualify her for MK1.5 status?

Same as mine. Built a year later in Dec '73 - Auto. No seat belt warning, no hazard lights, light inside glovebox. But it does have a footrest.

Lucky man, you must have one of the last tax exempt Stags. Last one made in December 1972, as you may already know, was LD21086.

Anyway if your commission no begins LD2**** you are a fully paid up member of the Mk 1.5 club and its a matter of what your 'second-sanction' Stag has, as opposed to what it should have had.

Thanks Brian, I wasn't aware of that. From memory the commission no. begins with 2104 but I can confirm that next week.

                    Brian,

Just checked the commission number, it's actually LD20943. Feeling less inadequate now that I know she's a MK1.5

I think the terms Mk1, Mk1.5 and Mk2 are unhelpful, as there were constant changes throughout production. I have an early car, what you might call a Mk1, but it has the Mk2 type radiator with expansion bottlewhich I understand was a factory fit for that period.

But seeing your car is the first time I have seen this dash combination.

Mine is an August 73 manufacture and has the brake warning light between the speedo & tach, the glove box reading / map light and the t-bar courtesy lamps on the "A" pillars and not a central overhead lamp. To top all that, it's commission number and heritage certificate say that she came off the production line with a manual overdrive gearbox......but she's always had a V5 (or reg document) as an auto.

Consistency is in the registration & colour.

Have we not got a Club historian that can provide members with a list of correct build standard for the various dates?

                            Agreed V Mad.

The no-loss cooling system was introduced during the Mk1 or first sanction era. Then Triumph announced quite a few changes for the Second sanction cars, what we popularly call the MkII, and introduced the LD2**** commission numbers. It was mid year before the new doors were commonly fitted and the hazard lights appeared in time for the 74 model year. Mine, M reg purchased Sept73 doesn't have either of these. I also have the earlier type rear bumper, but that may not be original. Seat belt warning lights were still two years off. I think the cars of this periodare described as Mk1.5 by owners who feel the original purchasers may have been short-changed. As a result we frequentlycannot be sure whether we need older or newer type fitments. One bonus we have is that the wiring diagrams in the manuals tend to be correct for our cars, but not the later ones.

Anyway, its an easy way to describe those in between cars, and a VERY exclusive club. Welcome aboard Jon.
