The first magazine of the year and by the time you read this, those so inclined to resolutions will have probably found excuses for breaking them and normality will have resumed. Well done to those who are keeping going – what ever that may be!
Before covering the forum, this article will go a little off-topic. Given the location of the AGM last November, I made the effort to attend and was struck by the scale of personal involvement and the amount of structure there is in place within the club. I had not really thought about it before and I would be surprised if the majority of members have either?
Your magazine has turned-up, people have contributed, someone has edited, advertising space has been sold, the magazine has been printed and posted, a web-site and forum is provided, insurance schemes are in place, the various areas have organised reports and prepared schedules for events and meetings for the year. Mostly, this is done by volunteers and I would say that some people devote a good few hours a week to the cause – they do this freely and have (based on the attendees and contributors at the AGM) been doing it for some time.
Before you turn the page with boredom, this is very relevant, especially if you see the presentation pack that was shown at the meeting. There are a lot of oldies in this club. They are mostly young of heart but in my opinion, things that you currently benefit from may not be there in the future and for reasons other than the Olympics, 2012 is predicted to be a year of change. If you have any desire to keep the car that you enjoy running and ensuring proper support in the future, why not drop a call to say hi and/or thank you to your local co-ordinator and get a copy of report, risks and plan for the future of the SOC.
Anyway, on to the forum. Both on-line and in car, a lot of fun has been had in the run up to Christmas and for those who don’t suffer from hangovers, on New Years Day as well.
The week before Christmas, the Forums Tahiti Blue owners sorted out a drive through London and a good number of Stags made their way in convey from the Ace Café, through and around central London, making lots of noise with laughter and sports exhausts on the way.
If you have read all of these articles, you will be getting familiar with some of the regulars and a bit like “where’s Wally” I always give a mention to the King of the Green. If you get to see any of the pictures of this meeting, spot the horny man with tinsel and a Christmas tree on his T-bar.
On New Years day, a few forum members made there way to the classic gathering at Brooklands. Given the late morning start-time my attendance was anticipated. It was not to be although it is well worth a visit at any time.
Our founder has been making good progress with his supercharger project and has it working and creating 200+ horse power for one of the members from an otherwise standard engine. The virtues of this project and other engine enhancements are discussed in detail in the forum and Tony makes a good case for development of the Triumph V8 rather than replacement with a different one.
Lots of major projects and restorations are underway with forum members posting up-dates of their labours and the offers of assistance or loans of equipment are great to see.
New photographs are being pulled together for advertising and these are all on-line submitted by members. Its not to late to post your favourite pics, if you have any of your pride and joy.
On the subject of pictures, it appears that a certain girls band are nearly as popular as Kylie, although one regular thought it all a bit sad or at least that’s what he posted as his wife caught him looking at the pictures for the 5th time.
There is some good advice on power steering pumps, with cylinder head removal tools also being covered this month. Every month the global coverage of our membership continues and whilst we are shivering, there is no shortage of comments about the sun and warmth elsewhere. The forum is not just helpful and humorous but educational as well. If you want to know all about Mercator Projection, read the topic requesting suggestions for this article.
Other topics this week (there are to many for a month) include:
We also decided the SOC Forums all time favourite record. A series of posts resulted a list of 10 songs that people voted for. This resulted in a tie giving a head to head between – Hotel California and Bohemian Rhapsody. Much to Dave’s disgust, the vote was won by Queen – in his words “a band headed up by a raging pouff with a superiority complex.”
Basically, this forum has something for everyone but like most things, including any club, what you get out will usually be proportional to what you put in.
We hope these articles tempt you to have a look and join in. If you don’t already know how, you can access the forum via the SOC web site at http://www.stag.org.uk/index.aspx or if you get stuck, email me at stagforum@anvuk.com and I will help you get on-line.
We hope to see you on the forum soon
