    EJ Ward

Popped into EJ wards today as I was passing on the M1
I spent the grand sum of nearly £6 on some gaskets and seals and still got a tour of the workshops and loads of advice from Martin
Loads of lovely Stags in all stages of restoration
Thanks and have a great Christmas to every one at EJ Wards

I am another happy customer. No problems when phoning for advice. They are always happy to oblige and were great when I picked an order up when passing.

Sadly my experience last winter with Ward's was not positive. Suffice to say that my car had to go back twice to correct the same fault and eventually was fixed by my own local mechanic. Ward's did offer explanations and a refund. But for me, twice bitten three times shy.

Same here although it was a while ago, it still annoys me though.

I think some traders try for a high percentage of satisfaction where I try for 100 %
My experience with a trader will always be with me and it literally scars you for life.
For me it's not the monetary value it's the fact you put your trust in someone and they let you down.
Personally ej ward has helped me lots over the years. Always happy to give free advice which when I started was really helpful.

Sometimes people cock up. It's how they deal with it that matters. I have made mistakes professionally a couple of times and found that a simple admission defuses the situation.

Mr Jones the bad news is that I have fouled up. The good news is that I am sending you a cheque and putting things right.

Absolutely agree, and when you are working with a 40+ year old car and reproduction parts, it is impossible to guarantee 100% perfection. It is the quality of response that matters.
This is why I always used to rate SOC Spares so highly; a couple of problems were dealt with courteously and sympathetically, whereas problems with parts from another well know supplier in Bomber County lead to endless acrimonious arguments.

hmmm... remember the crank they supplied me...was like a hacksaw surface finish....while I supplied the best of the best VP bearings to go with it.

In the end it was good old DIY....2 days of polishing, taking it to Swindon (South Cerney) who did F-all better to it, and charged me for my trouble (athough they did a good job of making sure the block was actually FLAT and actually at 90 degrees!!)..

..I ended up polishing the damn thing until it was actually USEABLE condition, despite S C eng saying the tolerances would be right up the end of MAX.
Sometimes it pays to ignore all the so called "experts"!

guess who never got paid a bean for all that aggro??
I have my theories about British suppliers and they are not flattering.

In the end, the proof of the pudding, the engine is still going solid as a rock nr a decade later.

(edited) Maybe suppliers need to be wished a happy christmas, but I can't remember even the last time a member of my family did that....

So GaryF starts a thread to thank a supplier for their service and wish them a happy Christmas but some turn it into a slagging off session. I thought there was a taboo on this forum about naming and shaming suppliers if you receive bad parts/service. But it appears that its now OK with this supplier.

There will always be the odd problem, mistake and occasionally problem customer within every business. And, as TR5 says, it is how the company deals with it that matters. John and Mick have always given me good service and for a specialist garage their hourly rates are very reasonable when compared to mainstream and many independent garages.

So please do not spoil GaryF’s thread with the negative comments, this was not what the thread was about.

                  Merry Christmas to all.

                  Dave.

Well said Dave. I can't understand how some people live with such bottled- up anger; must be terrible. As for the rest, see my signature!

                    Have a good one!

Got to agree EJ Wards have always been great to deal with from my experience
Mick has always had time to spend (for free) on the phone talking you through problems
Not many experts give there time away for free

I hope my comments were not misunderstood

One poster said "Suffice to say that my car had to go back twice to correct the same fault and eventually was fixed by my own local mechanic. Ward's did offer explanations and a refund"
and following posts, including mine, were meant to indicate that this is acceptable under the circumstances that you can't get 100% 'right first time' with this technology.

Anyway, I have no experience or connection with Ward's - just what I read on here, which, to me, has all seemed good.

Wards rebuilt the engine on my car years ago and it’s still running like a dream. If only the factory had done as good a job.

Wards have just done my engine so I hope I will experience the same reliability.
I have to agree, mick was a pleasure to deal with and very flexible and accommodating when issues were encountered (with the engine components not his work)
Also I like the way he is not hung up on originality and is happy to incorporate modifications into the build.
Another positive vote for wards from me.

I expect this reply to be pulled by the moderators but my experience with this company was not an odd problem or mistake and I feel I have the right to air my views.
From what I've read perhaps this companies standards have improved since I dealt with them as it was a while ago. Unfortunately my experience was so bad that it still annoys me. I complained to them about the work carried out on my car and feel I was blatantly lied to.
I'm glad others have found them good to deal with and felt the need to praise them but if this forum is a place where positive feedback is allowed to aid fellow SOC members in selecting a company to work on their cars then it has to be expected that members are also going to post negative comments if they have had poor service from the same company.
                              Merry Xmas
