    Jackshaft front bearing clearance

    Guys,

Continuing with my rebuild, I can get a 3 thou feeler between the jackshaft and front bearing, so have a thou and a half radial clearance. Prior to strip the motor wasn't exactly silent, but no bad knocks from memory.

Can anyone advise if this clearance is OK as I can't find any specs anywhere please? There are no signs of wear to worry about on either the shaft or bearing and the gears are in good nick. I also have no oil pressure recordings to offer as a guide.

    Cheers

I didnt check with feeler gauge but remember it wasnt tight and was more concerned that the bearing was round not distorted and that both surfaces not to badly pitted. I had seized due to waterpump gear failure but done 4k since then with no problem. Someone who knows more might be along shortly to reassure you re your feeler gauge measure.

Just fitted my jackshaft and it also has a clearance of 3 thou with no visible wear on the shaft or block. Probably started out at about 2 thou when new.
