Having seen some posts from Malaysian Stag, reminded me about time I spent in Singapore (1970 -71). During that time I ran a Triumph Herald of indeterminate age and reliability. There were holes in the floorpan that you could see through but which also gave an impression of air conditioning! One day during the Monsoon Season I was driving my wife and 2 small children to Jurong Bird park from Seletar when the heavens literally opened and we were caught in a flash flood as the "Monnie Drains" overflowed within minutes. We pulled to the side of the road as the water started to come up through the floor- we were marooned - but at least we were stable! Then we spotted several newish cars apparently driving past us. What idiots we thought as the rains continued to lash down and visibility was very poor. We then realised that these "idiots" were in fact not under control but just floating by and bouncing around like balls in a pinball machine. We however had our wheels firmly on the ground with the handbrake on and didn't/couldn't move. OK our feet were wet but we were safe and, after about an hour, we were able to drive off again. We never found out about those poor people in their new, rust free, cars - neither did we reach Jurong that day. The rusty old Herald saved the day.
