Winter programme of works for RWK (welding and re-painting)

    Hi All

Since I completed the restoration of our Stag (RWK) in December 2010, she has been in pretty much continuous use all the year round since. Well, seven winters has finally caught up with her and various sections of rot were breaking through. After a final few weeks of use since the NYD run and passing her MOT on Friday, I judged it was time to get on with the required repairs.

    Repair offside front wing
Repair leading edge of the offside cill
Repair offside rear wing in various places
New skin for the offside door
    Repair bootlid in one corner
    Replace boot hinges
Respray the car (keeping it French Blue)
    Cavity wax (Dynax)

I am hoping to have the car back on the road in May in preparation for using it on the 2018 Scatter Rally & Scavenger Hunt in June.

    Regards

    Bruce

Yesterday I started investigating the front wing, cill and door. I was impressed with the condition of the inner wing area. I was less impressed with the way the drainage channel at the bottom of the wing was filled up with detritus

Bumble our Beagle was supervising removal of the door today. The drivers door has rotted from inside out along the area where there is sound deadening pads fitted on the inside I will not be refitting those pads onto the new doorskin!

More work done on the car yesterday and today What is depressing is the discovery of rot in the joint of what appears to be two perfectly acceptable pieces of steel On a more positive note, the wing rear lower repair panel and splash panel were both welded into position. Out of interest I offered up the wing lip repair panel to see what it would look like.

                  Slow, cold work.

I had the big electric heaters running in the workshop. They took the edge off plus I was dressed up like a polar explorer!

I was only brave enough to get into the shed to do some work on my engine. Complete lack of commitment today due to the weather.

Going to have to do something with my P reg stag at some point as the metal is disappearing behind the fibreglass and filler that infests the front of the car. Maybe next Winter!

Hope you don't find too much unexpected rot. At least you did the job last time so you know what lurks behind the paintwork!

I had the opportunity to spend a few hours at the workshop this afternoon. I cut and positioned the outer wing repair panel. Its now ready for welding once I have finished positioning the wheel arch repair panel.
