Chrome strips top and bottom of front grill

Just in the process of replacing the two strips around the front grill. The old ones came off with the clips inside the strip. Is it just the reverse to put them back on or do you but the clips on the car first and then push the strip on over them?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes the chrome strips just push back, you could put a small bit of gaffer tape where the clips are on the body,to help stop the paint damage,im not a lover of those clips,i stuck mine on with silicone

I also used silicone sealant. Doesn’t scratch the paint and keeps the water out. Plus they haven’t fallen off yet!

Thanks for your replies. I thought about silicone but when I removed the strip I found that the entire lip that the strip pushes onto along with the back of the strip itself was all coated in waxoyl. There is no rust what so ever and these have been on since 1987 when the car last got rebuilt so the waxoyl has done its job. I will repeat the liberal coating when I replace the strip and just keep an eye on it each year or two.

I also used a liberal amount of Waxoyl prior to fitting the strips using the correct clips - from memory they mount into the chrome strip before pushing onto the bodywork.

Doesn’t matter either way as long as there is enough protection to prevent rusting from scratching.

Also trial fit with no clips. I fund with mine the curve on the front of the car was more acute than that of the trim which meant the ends were sticking out and under tension when clipped on. A bit of manipulation to alter its curve of the bright trim resulted in the correct shape being achieved and a relaxed fit where it meets the horse shoes.

I found the same issue as Ian, especially where the lower strip meets the horse shoe.

fitted mine night on 20 years ago though, probably ought get around to fixing it one day :P
