    Wiper blades again!

I just discovered that the new driver's wiper blade that I bought from Rimmer Bros on September 4th has failed. The spotwelds have come apart, the second one to fail in the same way.

    Might be worth checking yours.

The same thing happend to mine, it was bought from the same supplier. I have now managed to get a new old stock from an autojumble which is far better made and has thicker wires.

The old one, I have repaired with epoxy resin and I keep it as a spare.

And yet again even more first class ranting, most of it coming from you, Not good.

Bit of of a generalisation and overreaction surely? Are you aware of SOCTFL and the hard work their volunteers put in to reproduce obsolete parts to keep our cars on the road? I hope that they and others are not demotivated by your post.

This has all been discussed recently, not all suppliers use the same source of manufacture, you have choice. You often don’t have to buy the cheapest made product.

Agreed not all quality is satisfactory, maybe you would like to help the club and channel your efforts into getting quality improved?

I posted about the failed wiper blade for information, not having a go at anyone. It’s worth knowing that there is a manufacturing issue with the blades so that owners can keep an eye on theirs and the supplier can be informed.

I’m sure that Rimmers will replace the item, and meantime I’m using my old one on which I silver soldered the failed welds.

            A good heads up

            Did you contact them?

Some wiper blades and arms for 1970s Range Rover and Series Land Rovers are particularly rubbish also at the moment. I suspect that the demand for "value" is forcing suppliers to reduce quality.

Without the feedback though the suppliers cannot make the choice as to whether they continue with that particular strategy / supplychain

One of the well known suppliers for classic Jaguar products tags the products as NOS, OEM and pattern (and you takes your chances).

Land Rover parts supply is kind of dominated by "Bluebox" parts, quality has in the past been poor but with good useful feedback they have changed suppliers etc and quality is improving, which is good news because there is often little choice.

SOCTFL are doing fab work as has already been said, SOC and LD Part are also solid and reliable who would rather not sell poor quality. There are many many other suppliers who also adopt this policy.

as a suggestion and this is not directed at anyone in particular.
            - Buy the best you can afford - beware though there are chancers selling low quality for top quality prices!!
            - You buy something that fails to meet your expectation, report it back to the supplier
            - If the suppliers response doesn't meet your expectation then vote with your surfing habit and credit card use.

Or "you" could just chunter how crap everything is

Yes, I emailed yesterday, received a returns note this morning.

I suspect that there is only one company making the Speedblade style wipers, I can't see the volume justifying several competing manufacturers. The problem is that they don't have their spot welder set correctly so the weld between the wire and the bucket is minimal. It's also true that not many people will be as reliant on their wipers as those few of us that drive their cars regularly, so they may get many more years of service out of them that I do.
