Welcome. Some background info may help, but a well-sorted Stag engine does not run hot. Sometimes I wish I could get some more heat into mine! At this time of year, with the ambient temperature around 3 degrees, the temp gauge only reaches a quarter of the way across the scale.
Before resorting to cutting louvres in the bonnet, you need to determine just how hot is does get, and if it does run hot, then sort that out.Dave

Welcome to the club, as Dave (DJT) as suggested a bit more information about the stag and the problem will help members to get their heads round what may be required. You say you are told it runs hot have you experienced it for yourself what signs are you getting etc. the more info you can give the better.

Hi Derek,
Someone did an independent test in the Club Mag on the various routes you can take as regards cooling. I’ve only seen a portion online.
Hopefully someone has a link to it so you can consider other options before punching holes in your bonnet.
Certainly it’s worth considering what causes it to get hot. Does it get hot when it’s sitting in traffic, or does it get hot when driven on the motorway?

I bought my car 16 1/2 years ago and it had louvres in the bonnet, I must admit I didn't like them at first but now I think it really suits the car. Living in Far North Queensland the cooling system needs all the help it can get. Our winter is the same as a "good" UK summer. I have no viscous fan, only a Davies Craig electric fan and an EJ Ward aluminium radiator with a 78C thermostat, the electric fan is also used with the aircon, I have to wait until the engine is up to temp before using the aircon other wise the engine runs too cold. I'm tempted to tape the louvres up during the winter to help keep the heat in the engine bay. Ill let you know what effect it has on the gauge.
regards,
Raoul
