    Windsheild rain gutters

Originally I was not going to remove the windshield rain gutters during the restoration but as I looked a little closer at them I spotted a little corrosion,so of they came. Good job to as one side had more than a little. I purchased some new ones from JP and have found that they require quite a bit of trimming to make them fit properly. Thats fine, but as the original ones were all but destroyed during the removal and my other Stagis nicely tucked away for the winter ,with no access until the spring, I do not have a reference for where the the gutter meets the wing. If anyone has their digital camera handy I would appreciate a photo of this area.

    Thanks

    Hi Dave

Not very clear pics but they might help you

The bottom of the gutter is about 5mm from the wing

Wow look at the cracks in my paint....never noticed that till I took the picture!!

Ho dear. I sense another debate starting here. Almost every stag I have seen, and both the ones I've owned, the rain gutter is brazed to the wing top, so the rain runs down the gap between scuttle and wing.

Did you specify SOCTFL gutters from Paddocks? These are supposed to fit without trimming.

      Dave.

Hi Dave, ex- factory, the gutters were brazed to the wing top with no gap, however, most cars that have had the wings replaced will have a small one, 3 or 4mm. Martin.

                Hi Dave

I did not specify SOCTFL gutters but I would hope that Graham would automatically send me the best as I have never questioned his prices. Over the last 6 years or so I have orderd loads of Stag stuff from them,a little from Rimmers and have just placed my first order with LD parts. I will ask Paddocks what they sent me.

The rain gutter thatI removed was welded at the top, riveted between the top& bottom and brazed right at the bottom but definately not attached to the wing. The car came from SouthernCalifornia and to my eyes was completely original.

                Thanks

Here is a shot of the rain gutter held in with screws for now until I decide how how to finish them off at the wing

                  Thanks to all that responded

                        Hi Stuart

Thanks for braving the elements. FYI its -14 C here in Toronto

It appears that other than the angle of the radius on the bottom of my gutter, mine is the same as yours. I think that ifI changed the angle so that it runs parallel with the top of the wing it will look fine. Am I correct in saying that yours is not attached to the top of the wing

                          Hi Dave

The rain gutter runs down inside the wing where it channels the water into another gutter down inside the wing behind the front wheel I think.

The only place it attaches to the wing is on the rear corner where it appears to have a blob on weld or something (if you blow up my picture you can see this).

It's now blowing a 70 mph gale outside and very heavy rain I don't think my boy will be playing football tomorrow!

Looks kike Im facing the same job, bought some none SOCTFL from Rimmers but Im not going to fit them as they do not look anything like the originals. Will be ordering some SOCTFL ones from Paddocks.

                              Hi Dave

My gutters are now fitted, welded at the top and bottom and riveted in between. I still have to clean them up but that will happen when I start preparing the car for paint. I am going to drop Graham at JP a line and voice my displeasure with the gutters that he sent me.

Good luck and I hope that the ones that you get do not require all of the trimming that I had to do
