Moor to Moor Run - Not quite!

As it happened the weather was the least of my problems......this was how my Moor to Moor run ended up

After about 80 miles on the motorway I heard some nasty sounding noises coming from the engine - turned out that the viscous coupling was preparingto go into orbit, so out came the AA membership card!

Ah well, another year maybe :?

Deepest sympathies, Bill. I know the feeling . You look forward to something like this for months, a chance to get the car out for something fun, and it lets you down. Just as mine did going to Brooklands. Hope you managed to stop it lunching onthe radiator.

Looks like a cloudy day, but not as wet as feared.

      Thanks Dave

Luckily the radiator has survived. I'm relieved it wasn't more serious as I've never heard one go before and the noise it makes is horrendous - sounds like a major crankshaft/bearingfailure. I understand that somebody travelling up from Dorset suffered the same fate.

Would appreciate advice from anybody who's done this job.... my 16" Kenlowe is mounted on the front of the radiator with the copper pin/ratchet system which, given limited access, may be difficult to remove without damaging the radiator. Has anybody tackled this one?

Also, what's the best way of securing the crankshaft to remove the bolt holding the pulley/viscous coupling?

        Bill,

Having just done the jackshaft/water pump job, this entailed removing radiator, fan/pulley and timing cover. I undid the bolt by having the car in top gear (manual), hand brake fully on and a good socket/bar on the bolt. Gentle 'tap' with a lump hammer on the bar shook the bolt loose. Tightened in the same way. My torque wrench goes up to 120 ft/lb. So I used this to tighten up, then another light 'tap' on a socket bar to nip it up a touch more. (130ft/lb required).

Can't help with the 'Kenlowe Dilemma' as I don't have one.

Bill. Sorry you missed the Moor-to-Moor run, it was aexcellent day, and even the rain held off.

Abig thank you to John Baverstock and his team
