I Googled Spitfire Multispark and found the topic on a couple of other car forums. The contribution by 'Dan' in the TheMiniForum mirrors my own thoughts. Here is his posting:

Energy is not free. If this device is making 5 sparks out of the one single pulse that comes from your coil without adding extra ignition components other than what is essentially nothing more than a ferrite core around the HT lead then it is giving 5 sparks that combined together produce more or less the same energy as the single one did without it. You can't amplify without adding power. Fuel is ignited by heat, not pretty light shows.

People have been selling these things at car shows for many, many years. They used to be ball shaped and called a smart ball or a power ball or something similar with the name changing fairly frequently depending on how far ahead of trading standards the guy selling them was managing to stay, now apparantly they are a cone and if the dealer is different from the one I've seen at every show I've been to for the last 10 years I'll be amazed. If they did all these amazing things in any testable way, car manufacturers would fit them. You may have found an increase in performance or it may be entirely in your mind. Did you also fit new HT leads at the same time as this device by any chance? That was how they used to do it, being well aware that most people who wander about classic car shows have a car that is a little behind on servicing they told you to fit their device and new leads to replace the 3 to 5 year old broken down set that were in place already and low and behold the car performs better.

Now I'm well aware that this device may be nothing to do with the old cons that so many people fell for and it may indeed be a genuine functioning part but bear in mind that no cars, not even the highest performance pure bred supercars have any kind of funky ignition doodads fitted as standard. No 8 toothed spark plugs, no balls, cones, cubes or rhomboids of plastic and ferrite wrapped around the leads and nothing that they can't explain the function and effect of to you using real words and actual physics rather than open promises and little black boxes with a window on the front and lots of mirrors inside to make the spark look brighter than it is.

Basically what I'm saying is pay your money and make your choice if you like but buyer beware. I personally have known similar devices to be on sale at shows for many years and have known them to be simply smoke and mirrors, with a lifetime gaurantee of course. Maybe this device works but I for one doubt it.

End of mine and 'Dan's' opinion.

Edit: I just noticed a post from 'miRon', on the same forum:

    only 1 spark is needed,
i got one of these last year and worked well for a WHILE then it got a bit C**p, so i took itoff,
later i stepped on it by accident and there was 3 washers in there!!!!!!

    SO £25 for 3 washers...........never again.

the guy is having a laugh - this device cannot create more sparks than were fed into it - my guess it increases HT voltage, but by an ancient method..... it will probably have a small spark gap in there and that will force the coil to increase voltage to jump the now effectively increased plug gap - but only to the limit that the coil was originally capable of, and if the rest of your ignition system is a bit pony then you'll be worse off and most likely have a misfire.

Smoke, mirrors and snake oil...... waste ye not your money... buy a sports coil instead.

You might want to note that Mr A Graham, trading as Spitfire Multispark Ignition Improver was taken to task by Trading standards for misleading advertising in 2002 - and it's still being sold......
