    Dashpots

Hi all, I would very much like to know what you guys use in your dashpots, I've always used 20 / 50 but I'm beginning to wonder. Martin.

No you are right Martin - 20/50 is what you will find most people use, do a search, it has been asked before several times!

        HiMartin.

I was told 20/50 is to thick. I use 3 in 1 oil asreccomendedbymy mechanic I've not had any problems since.

In the past I have used Carb oil, I think Burlen or similar sold it, I think it was close to 3in1 for viscosity, engine oil can be too thick in the winter. You can find this stuff on ebay, item number 350149454847

A subject of myth and legend! I think the makers spec was SAE20, but perfectly ok to use a 20/50 or 10/30 multigrade (like thousands of us do) as the oil's viscosity at high temperature is not an issue. Some reckon 3 in 1 is too thin resulting in a weak mixture when you press the loud pedal, while others happily use ATF - you could probably squirt some old chip oil in there and not notice the difference!

I prefer to use garlic infused extra virgin olive oil as per Nigella Lawson's recipe! A fantastic aroma when you open the bonnet!

                  regards,

Does she rub the garlic cloves on her thighs to help the oils to infuse before placing them in a pestle and mortar and pouting a lot I do hope so
