    Spax adjustable front shocks

    Hi All

    Been looking at all the old posts about these shocks and i still can't make mind up.

    Has anyone got some currently fitted to their cars, is so what is your opinon of them?

    I think Chris810 has these fitted Front & Rear he did some posts about it early last year I think?

      I've read his posts on the subject but he ended taking them off cos they were to hard

      So fari've replaced my bushes for polly ones and brought a set ofTony Harts lowering springs, so i what some shocks to compliment the springs, but all the reports point to gas shocks in the front being to hard.

      But how hard is hard

      What road are going down for your front end?

        Hi Stu

        I would go for progressive springs from Monarch and standard front inserts. With Chris Witor roller bearing top mounts.

        The other option is GAZ shocks which are supposed to be the bee's knees!

          It seems that everyone has different opinions and preference's the make etc, i think i will have a phone round the usual suppliers and see whats on offer and make a decision from there.

            I've got konis fitted at the front and rear, they are set 2 clicks above standard on the rear and ! click at the front. I've got poly bushes all round as well.

            I did all this work a few years ago, it has made the car alot better to drive. I'd recommend the mods.

              I've got Spax's front and back on the Stag. Front's weren't adjustable back's are. Bit hard to compare to the OEM setup as I replaced all the springs and rubbers at the same time. I don't consider the ride overly hard but I've got rubber suspension bushes, with poly spring rubbers

                I read somewhere recently (On here? Triumph World? PC?) that anything other than OE type dampers in the front suspension was a complete waste of money given the basic design of the front suspension. Maybe if you were going for a complete redesign for track use, but standard shocks are perfectly OK forthe Stag/2500/2000 range.

                  Have spoke to both Peter at LDpart and Tony Hart and both recommend the Spax adjustables front and rear

                  I have used spax before on a couple of BMW's i had before the kids came along and was very pleased with the results

                  I'm still undecided but am slow leaning towards the spax shocks

                  It's a good jobi worked over Christmas's because what started out as justa service is starting to cost a bit more than first planned:shock:

                    I've been considering a change to these shocks as well. The idea of being able to adjust it from soft to firm appeals. But if the soft setting is still "firm" then perhaps standard shocks will suffice.

                    Has anyone got any experience to share about how "comfortable" these adjustables can be?

                      I have spax adjustables front and back - the fronts are fine, the cars rides nicely and corners really well - not that I race it about mind.

                      I fitted them because the old gas inserts were wobbling about in the tube and when I tightened the top nut on one I found that the thread on the tube was damaged which had in turn damaged the thread on the non replaceble damper / strut tube nut thingy.

                      Long story but I bought adjustable front inserts and a 2nd hand tube and the car now rides better that it ever used to. I am very happy with it. The only issue is that the top of the strut (that you attach the adjuster to) sits quite high so the black rubber bungs don't go back on - rather than risk water and crap getting into the top mount I cut a slot in the original black rubber rung and it fits ok - not pretty but it fits..

                      I got them from Robsport who were very knowledgable on the subject.

                        Did you fit them with standard springs?

                        I have a set of Spax adjustables waiting to fitbut haven't yet decided which springs to go for.

                          I'm fitting mine with unrated lowered springs for Tony Hart

                          Depending how much sleep i get at work this week on nightsi might get it all rebuilt by the weekend.

                            yep standard springs - my budget allowance from SWMBO didn't extend any further than two damper inserts, one second hand strut tube and a day max for me to get it together
