    cleaning carb elbows

    Hi Guys

I have removed my carb elbows today so that I can get the cam covers off, has anyone got any tips on cleaning them, I am not keen on the polished look and thought I might try a wire brush in drill method that I used on the trailing arms when I did the rear suspension. alternatively has anyone tried painting them silver?

    Thanks

    Hi

You could try AUTOSOL metal polish hard work but the results are good.

      Hi Mick

I cleaned mine in petrol and then drilled themdown and have painted them with Car Plan brush on silver paint.

You are quite welcome to have a look and I may even have some in the tin!

Send me a PM if you want to have a look

      Very pleased with them

      Cheers

Hi Mick, brake cleaner and a SMALL wire brush, gets in every corner, you'll be amazed how well brake cleaner works, as long as you're not stingey with it. Martin.

I did mine with a brass rotary brush in an electric drill, worked a treat, clean but not overly polished.

            Thanks for replys guys

I have so far cleaned them with the brake cleaner, wire brushed them and then soaked them in Frost Aluminium cleaner which leaves a dull finish .

I am probably going to try the soft abrasive brush as supplied by Frost Restoration

about this brush they say, itgives a grain free sheen on adraded or machined surfaces.

If that doesn't work I will take you up on your offer Andrew, thank you

              Hi Mick

I find Brillo pads work really well and normally leave a nice sheen to the alloy. Bit messy but really effective. (Wear glove as they stink!)

                Thanks for all the tips

I ended up cleaning them with brake cleaner, frost aluminium cleaner and then using some fine wire wool to givean even sheen, see my post here for a pichttp://stagownersclub.mywowbb.com/forum1/3021.html
