    Hi Steve

I am in the process of doing the same thing. I am still adapting the seats to fit and so havenot got round to the colour part yet. I bought a kit from a stand at the N.E.C. Classic last November, the large kit was about £85 and the extra large was £115. The kit has all the cleaning and prep solutions and pads, dye and sealer for the completed job, plus an airbrush kit and bottles of compressed air . The kit looks impressive. You can find it here http://www.furnitureclinic.co.uk

I fitted a pair in a Frogeye Sprite replica I built. Very comfortable seats, often heated. Later ones are more sporty with
            More pronounced side bolsters

look forward to seeing a pic of the finished article. How easy will it be to fit in the Stag and what is involved?

                    Very nice seats Steve

I'd never heard of leather dye till i mentioned in this tread, i've been after some seats for a while (i'm slow running out foam in mine) i will be able to broaden my search now.

What kind of mods are these going to require to the runners?

I fitted some Recaro seats into mine a few years ago.

Depending on the seat runners on the new seats it can be quite easy. Mine ended up being a simple folded section, detail pictures here:

                        Stu,

you can only dye the leather seats if the leather has a natural finish to it, ie. not had an artificial coating put on the leather, most of the leathers found in Fords, Rovers, fiats etc is rubbish and no better than plastic, but in something like the jaguar youshould be okay to dye.

hi darren, stu e think it will only be a matter of folding a couple of brackets to pick up old fixings and accomodate new once the position is correct.but i searched for a long time to locate black xjs seats and rare as hens teeth.leather specialists tell me to restore and recouler the seats is not difficult but time consuming and the leather on jag seats is of good quality apparently, just hope it all comes out wright .

cheers steve.............ps mike did you use stainless for your brackets and are they nutserts for the bolts

                            Hi everyone

I have been reading this with interest

Jaguar leather comes from mainly two suppliers Eagle Otterwa and Persubo

Both dye the leather at the tanning stage which goes through many processes to achieve the standards and quality required.the leathercan be redyed at a later stage but remember this ispaint which etches into the coating and will ware in time

Not all the seat covering will be leather, Some will be ambla (PVC) in none contact areas (seat back panel, head rest side panels, panels which are close to the tunnel etc) therefore the colour may vary or adhesion may be compromised.

Reference to bending bits of metal to fix the seats to the car floor pan.

Please be mindful that the manufacturers go to a lot of trouble to meet regulations for crash and safety. even back in the seventies when the Stag was designed. ( I worked for Leyland back then at Coventry)

Re the new Jag seats you might find that there are availablebrackets that fit onto the tracks to enable the pitch of the fixing holes onto the Stag floor pan As Jaguar use similar seat frames from model to model but have to adjust the height / fixing point to meet regulations / H point specifications.

Seat fixings are given stringent testing to make sure that they do not rip out of the floor or the brackets break or deform.

In this age of product liability and insurance claims (God fobid) please make sure the gauge of the brackets are up to the job.

Up to Xmas I was employed by Jaguar as a seating design engineer for the last eight years and would have been able to assist in getting the data required for the fixing centres etc.

But if you are stuck on any issue I would be happy to see if I could get information from some of my old colleagues if they still are there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your thread made interesting reading- If you could gain any info it would very helpful to many of us hear. The seats in a Stag are fine when in tip top condition but stupidly expensive to restore. The XJS leather ones look to be of a far superior design and indeed are much more comfortable. the costs involved look to be much less also.

                              Regards

                              Darren
