    Washer Bottle

Have any of you out there successfully repaired your washer bottle motor functionality? Myself and another have problems with the motor stopping or not starting if left for a while. My friend has taken the main 2 rivets out and gone to the lengths of cleaning the motor brushes. It all works until you screw down the screws and it cuts the motor out.

I can’t find a breakdown or diagram of the motor assembly / lid apart.

The impellor must be catching on something and may a piece of wax paper in the right place would prevent the impellor dragging.

Anyone had any fun with these? There are certainly quite a few of them failing nowadays and rather than fit an aftermarket motor, it would be good if there was a cure.

    Any comments much appreciated

I turned the rubber impeller round which pumps the water. This gives them a slightly longer life. Had not needed to touch the motor though

I recently fitted a second hand one - I found that you just have to play around with the screws to get the right point - too loose and did not pump, do them up too tight and impeller binds up. Not had much use so far though but I am hoping it will be ok.

Very sadly, the washer pump is one of the things Triumph should have consigned to the bin, I was forced to change mine for a similar but not original one, and now it's like going through a car wash. Don't forget, replacement originals will be new old stock and just as poor, you could always fit a hidden one to keep the original look. Cheers, Martin

Good point about a hidden.LDPart provideall I needto do this and I was and am still tempted to do so

There is always that feeling that if its mechanical, then it could be reassembled with shims or likewise to getthat balance. I only use mine for the MOT!

          Thanks all for your comments

New ones are available from various suppliers, but the terminals are on top of the motor, not on the side of the base.

andrew if you manage to repair your old pump one virtualy undetectable mod is to install a NON RETURN VALVE in the line just after the pump out of sight.they are very small and peanuts in price, every time you use wash it will drain down again then you have a delay in water hitting jets and the pump has to work harder for longer.but not with an NRV because the line is always full. good luck steve.

Don't get me started in a debate over 'originality' .

You are right and it is a puzzle why, having gone to the trouble of having them made, they didn't stick with the original layout for the connections. :?

I bought one of those and wasn't impressed. The lid doesn't fit properly and spins around, and the pump has to be primed before it will work, so you end up with a mouthful of washer fluid . An exercise you have to repeat if the reservoir ever runs dry..

(And I didn't buy it from the usual bad boy supplier!).

I have an original lid and motor which I got off E bay, this also spins round and does not tighten unless your very gentle with it!

The motor does take a couple of goes on the switch before it squirts water almost as if the water drains back into the bottle.

And to confuse things even further, the last years cars (1977) had the motor for the washer bottle on the side and a blue plastic top.

Hi, Dave's right, I stuck a non return in near the bottle and as he says, instant wash, ÂŁ1.50 at Halfords. Martin.
