    Coolant consumption

Is it normal for the Stag to use a little coolant? I cover 170 - 200 miles each week in mine and every other week I have to add about a couple ofegg cups full of coolant. Is this normal? I cannot find a leak anywhere, I replaced the manifold gaskets and water pump cover gasket last year and the hoses were renewed at Christmas. Does anyone else find this, or should coolant consumption be zero? I can only imagine that it must be evaporating:shock:

    Cheers

Hiya Brian, your doing quite well, it's normal to loose a little coolant, it'snot a well designed system and a small amount is lost during the expansion / contraction cycle. Whisky drinkers understand, it's called the faireys dram. Martin.

I wouldn't be worrying about it - you can get some minor leakage into the vee from the inlet manifold gaskets and it boils off pretty quickly - mine does that and it's about 1/2 a tankful a month.

On that basis, yours isn't bad at all.....

                  Hi folks

Many thanks for the very reassuring replies. I kind of suspected that the Stag may use a little coolant anyway but as this is my first Stag I am still on a steep learning curve!!! I'm still a little paranoid about the cooling system:shock:

My mind is now much more at rest, thanks!

                  Regards

                  Brian

                    Hi Brian.

Have you tried fitting a new 20lb pressure cap on the expansion bottle, it might help.

                    Paul.

You could always look in to fitting a header tank

Sadly header tank won't help - tried it, loads of other advantages but not that one. Martin.

                          Hi Paul

The pressure cap looks quite new but I may buy one next time I'm in Paddocks.

                          Thanks
