    Air Filter

    Hi All,

Stripped my Air Filter to bare metal today, had to, it looked awful,.

Iremember reading a thread recently about Dove Grey paint fromHalfords that it was the closest to the original, were the Cam covers the same colour?, as I want to do them next. Also the paint in question I wonder, was it sprayed on or painted.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated, was going to add an image of the stripped Air filter but did not know how to make it smaller to fit...Doh.

I only ever remember cam covers as silver, same on the 1850 Dolomites but mine are chrome, as is the air filter - very non-standard but quite pretty in a green engine bay.

As to finish, they would have to be sprayed to look as factory, but aerosol will be fine as long as you prepare and prime properly.

:?I am very inclined to ask this question; what came first ? the chicken or the egg?, what I am trying to say is this, did the air cleaner box exist first ( which I know it did ) or the bonnet pad ?, surely the manufacturers at the body shop when the Stag was built saw through this.

Otherwise the only conclusion is that the insulation pad was added later as a good idea. I may be wrong but what other explanation could there be,I remember a number of you have this problem.

I will do as well because I boughtcar without one and am going to fit one soon.( £75.00 including the brackets from paddocks )

They were both there together - it's just that the bonnet pads can sag a little, and then they will rub - if mine did it would just polish the chrome for me

              It was built by BL.

Anyone else seen a bonnet pad like this. Now slightly worse for wear but with cutouts moulded in the critical places? Oh, and its stuck on.

I took material off the inlet elbows. I took as much as I could off the flat surfaces where the box bolts on and the box is miles away now and cant touch. The only thing is, that the air box sits slightly further forward.

Yes, I had about 1/4 inch taken off the surface area where the box bolts on. The engineer charged me £20 and put them on a jig.

I got really fed up with the box touching the bonnet pad and even though the pad was new and was up as far as it would go, it did it on one corner. I put talc on the box and put the bonnet down and that way i could see where it was touching.

As mentioned, being that the box would sit slightly further forward, the balance pipes on the carbs sit as a different angle, but you wouldn't notice

If you have a spare pair then give it a try

                      Good luck

                      Andrew

I believe the rocker box cover official colour is to BS 381 631 (Light Grey) RAL 7001

which should be the same for the air box

                        Cheers Roger
