Not sure but I've got one that looks very similar on my Land Rover 110. I've had it for 14 years (was built in 1985 though) and its done around 140,000 miles and still seems OK. Only difference is it is on a diesel so the revs won't be as high.

Looking at the various threads on the forum I think that someone somewhere has made a duff batch.

I have been told todaythat Land Rover part ERC2849 is the same unit. Typing this into Google brings up a couple of interesting results:

This is listed on a LR suppliers site as fitting a few models:

Here is a cheap supplier. I have bought stuff from them before and it has been OK:

This is avery informativelink, didn't realise it had a NATO and MODpart numbers and was part of our wareffort- At this very moment there must becountless overheating Landrovers out in Iraq and Afganistan with useless fans wondering where all the spare viscous units have gone.

Obviously the same supplier Dave, was told the same:?, the fins on the german one were a shiny alloy and looked well made compared to the new one which looks like it was moulded in cast iron. Time will tell

              Hi Guys,

A bit of feedback for you.

I have just bought one of the viscous couplings from the thexmod.com site and it certainly looks like the right part. I have bought it as a spare and I am not about to pull my car apart to find out if it really is an exact match . Having put three new ones in my Stag in 18 months I thought it prudent to keep a spare around!

It arrived in a Landrover branded box, although the seal was broken. I assume the contents are correct! The inner casting has "Huddersfield" incorporated into it so it is presumably uk made. The seal around the centre bearing looks to be a little different than any of the three I have already bought from our normal suppliers. The casting and machining is the same in apearance as the normal ones.

              Regards

              Dave

I'm sure the one on mine is original and that has Huddersfield on it.

Well the new one was duly fitted and, disappointingly, it rotates a full turn when spun by hand (cold). What's more, it rotates anti-clockwise when the Kenlowe is switched on (engine stationary). Supplier has referred this to a well-known Stag expert who reckons it is "not excessive andyou have nothing to worry about".

Personally I have no confidence in it and have ordered a LR unit from the govt surplus place.

I've an OEM one from the factory. It has the word HUDDERSFIELD, PATENTED, HOLSET 2and TKC0101 inraised letters. It also has E7804 stamped on it.

It's very stiff to turn by hand.

Maybe you would assume German quality is good, but its still an assumption.

                      P.S. My daily driver is a 250 W202 MB....reasonable quality.

I saw some viscous couplings with the Holset logo ground off...suspicous.

There are a lot of counterfeit bearings on the market too...some only have three ground steel balls fitted, the rest are just fillers! They do not have a life, but they have been known to come in counterfeit 'German' packaging.

                      Check out this thread too:-

The one from http://www.thexmod.com has arrived today. Not bad as it was only ordered yesterday lunchtime! It came in a sealed Landrover package dated 03/01/95, so it is NOS. Like NickA's photo, this one has PATENTED HOLSET HUDDERSFIELD on it, but not TKC101.

I intend to fit it Monday, so will report back then.
