Knocking noise from the front

Hi all

Went out today for a drive and the car has a horrible noise coming from the front nearside,its a clatter when I turn and when I go over a bump,I thought it could be a snapped drag strut but it seems ok,sometimes it even sounds like its coming from the gearbox tunnel but I just dont know.

Any ideas anyone.

It could be almost anything in the front suspension. What about the anti-roll bar?

Check the metal dust sheild hasn't broken from it's mounting and is catching/rattling on the disc and suspension.

Been out today ,the noise is coming from the gearbox tunnel and I reckon when I go round a roundabout the gearbox and tunnel metal meet and also when I reverse the noise is there but go through a left hand bend its not there.Still trying to see exactly,the noise seems to be near the gear stick area.

Wheres the narrowist point between gearbox and tunnel?

High Mark,

I can t see anything that can touch as the distances are too great. Could it be the exhaust attachment to the gearbox?

Have you checked your vis-coupling? When mine went the 1st time i had a rattling noise which seemed to come from around the gearbox, sounded as tho the ring gear had gone or the exhaust was rattling around the box. I could'nt believe the coupling would transmitsuch asound thru the engine.

If it is from the gear box area check the rear gearbox mounts, they might have given up the ghost.

Its possibly the handbrake cable rubbing on the propshaft. Had this one myself
