Can this cause a petrol leak?

I was changing the carb/rocker breather hoses today and noticed that I had asmall petrol leak. At first I thought that it was the float chamber gasket but eventually noticed that it was coming down the casing onto the gasket.

Both carbs have one of these - what ever it is! - but this one is discoloured and appears to have separated slightly and it right above where the petrol ends up..

Can this cause a very slow leak?

Hi Graham this is the temperature compensation we have been on about in the other post.

Your carbs look like mine did before I overhauled them, I suggest you get them rebuilt as you starter box is leaking aswell along with the seals on the main spindle.

Doesn't take long to rebuild them just take your time and make sure you have the whole kit. LD Parts do a good kit or Burlen Fuel Systems.

        Hi Graham,

This discoloured white plastic thingy is the cover for the temperature compensator on each carb. See other threads for info in the TC.

The TC is secured to the carb with two screws. There is a washer underneath (516971) which I guess could leak if it were perished or had been disturbed. The TC shouldn't leak fuel otherwise.

Thanks Dave. £47 plus washers - I think it might be worth trying the washers first! That said, I have just read the whole thread on the carbs and its tempting to get a budget figure on the weber conversion!!!

It's not that drastic. I bought the kit when I did mine. It is possible to strip it right down and leave the adjusting screws intact. I fixed mine back together and it works! That was 12 months ago and I still haven't thought too much about tuning them..
