I am servicing the Stag this week

I am servicing the Stag this week after trawling the forum this is my list.

    Air filter

    Oil and oil filter change

    Spark Plugs

    Petrol filter

Reverse flush of the cooling system, Antifreeze corrosion inhibitor for aluminum engines

    Grease points;

Driveshaft’s UJ's on Prop shaft (2) and half shafts (4) you need the flexible bit to get to the UJ in the trailing arm.

Hand Brake cable in the yoke above the prop and where it goes through the sub frame.

The splines on the Half shafts need graphite grease or CV Joint grease

Two lube points on the top swivel bushes in the inner wing turrets

    Gear box fluids change

    Rear axle fluid change?

Breather (The breather is on the top of the differential casing, near the right rear corner. Check that the pin is loose in the breather hole)

    Brake pads check

    Have I missed anything?

I want to cover as much as I can as this is my 1st year of ownership and I don’t know what has been done/checked before.

Steering rack grease point - in the pinion housing there is a blanking bolt - remove bolt and replace with a parallel thread nipple - give it 5 strokes of ordinary LM type grease, then remove nipple and replace blanking bolt.

To be done at intervals of 6000 miles only - don't do it every year if you do less than 6000.....

      Hi Stag Beetle

You need to check the rear brake shoes (order new screws before doing this) V5435 (James Paddock 50p each) and the brake cylinders for leaks)

Clean and coat with grease all brake pipes to inhibit corrosion.

Inspect bodywork for corrosion or damage (See Fed Up post).

When greasing the UJ's also inspect for wear.

Check tyre tread depth and general condition.

Check all lights and headlight alignment.

Diff oil is impossible to change without removing the Diff (not easy on your own believe me)

Inspect all exhaust mountings and replace as necessary.

Check and adjust front wheel bearings, if rear ones have play thats a big job.

If unsure how old the brake fluid replace by bleeding through with new fluid.

Check balance of the carbs using and airflow meter. ( Cheap of E bay look up Weber Flowmeter)

That should keep you busy for a while.

There is a list of the reccomended service items near the front of the ROM. This should give you a good steer, plus any of the items above that are not covered by the ROM.
