    Altenator Wiring

I'm finally getting around to wiring up the alternator that I have moved to the nearside top of the engine. Can anyone describe the route of the standard wiring.

I know ashort loom goes from the alternator to a connector block mounted on theinner wingthen it goes back anddisappears under the Air con vac reservoir which is mounted beside the brake servo. Thismakes it difficult to trace withouta major strip down.

The manual is no help, does anyone know where it ends up, fusebox or back of instrument panel? To make the job easier I was going to leave the existing wiring in place and run new wiring around to the new alternator position.

    Hello Alan.

I moved mine over last year, as you say there is a short loom where the main power lead taps into the connection box, the warning light and battery sensing leads connect via a 2 pin socket nearby.

The original bracket I bought came with a very basic extension lead which plugged into the existing alternator loom and ran round the front of the of engine, I was not happy with this for many reasons, so made up a sheathed loom with correct connectors that ran right round the engine bay to existing connector block on O.S wing. I bought all the parts from http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk

Thanks John, I can see the simplicity and attraction of what you have done but I have noticed that the cable from the connector block back to the main loom has been affected byage andheat, bend it and the insulaton cracks. that was why I really wanted to replace it completely back to its source. Wherever that is - Alan

Best place to go is direct to the main terminal for the starter - then you can solder a nice big terminal on the end of your alternator wire and make a decent connection
