    Hi Tim,

I'm looking to get mine done but Leicester is a bit far. Out of interest, what is the "upgraded" core?

      Hi Tim,
One of the best local rad specialist used to be Bagshot Radiators. They are still around but now based in Odiham. They come up on a google search.
I should be seeing Geof tomorrow to get my engine so will ask him for any recommendations.

        Hi Al,

Shame they closed down. What time you seeing Geoff? I'm down at Martins tyres in the morning to get my daughter some new rubber so could pop in and see you both.

Anyone 'upgrading' their rad should check out the SOC technical reprints section. Some so called upgrades are actually inferior due to poor air flow. The original standard Mk2 rad was supposed to be one of the best.

                Tim

My rad is thicker than standard. i.e from front to back.Thats what I meant. I know from previous articles over the years that there has been lots of debates of rads. When I brought the car it had it on, so obviously I left it. The cooling is fine. But saying that no different to previous stags I have had with a standard rad.

I was referring notto the various debates butto the tests (by Dave Wardle), re-published in the Tech Reprintswhich comparedthe main common types of rad. The test results showed, surprisingly thatsome rads were inferior to the standard ones. The poor performers had a higher density or more rows ofof tubes, or were a different type (louvered fins) and this was thought to impede airflow.

Think the four row radiator came out best in those test but if you have deep pockets the ally radiator is said to be really good [by the people who sell them], any one on the forum got one fitted and can confirm if they are any good in hot weather and traffic jams, probably not the best time of year for a good test.

I have an alloy rad fitted in mine, with an 14" electric fan, an 88 degree fan switch mounted in the rad, a header tank and a mechical temp gauge.

I've had no problems over the last year, on a clear run the temp gauge stays at around 80 degrees and the fan isn't even needed, if in heavy traffic or at a stand still the temp gauge rise's to just over 100 degrees and the fan kicks in and coolstill thetemp drops to around 90 degrees then the fan cuts out.

Imight change the fan switch to a lower degree or wire a flick switch in to the fan circuit just to be on the safe side, but other than that i'm well happy with the cooling system now and no longer have the urge to look at the temp gauge every couple of minutes.

                        Hi Tim,

I don't think Baghsot Rads is closed down, just relocated to Odiham.

It is only 30 mins down the M3.

Geoff has not been contactable today, and supposedly playing golf tomorrow, so not sure when I can get my engine at the moment.

He might call before he goes to golf.

Can you pm/text me your mobile no. as not sure if I have the right one.

                        Rgds...Al.

For those of us in the SE area, Feltham Radiators is a company I have dealt with before, and did a good job on both a rad and a heater matrix on my Sunbeam.

                            Hi Tim,

Saw Geoff today, and hopefully getting my engine back tomorrow if Ifinish work early enough

Asked him about radiators, and he uses Cranleigh Radiators (I have used them years ago to repair a chipper radiator). If you want the rad seeing to, take it to his house and they will pick it up from there and deliver it back and you pay trade prices.

                            Sound good to me.
