Do you mean the hub will not come off the stub axle 154474? Then you need a three jaw puller and it will come off no problems
If you mean the stub axle from the vertical link 209344 then once the hub is removed and the stub axle unbolted hit it from the back with a rubber mallet or plastic hammer and it should come out.
The Stub axle does not need to be replaced unless damage/worn so just replace the bearings.
Hi Worthers, welcome, I'm very curious to know why you wanted to removethe stub axle? Not normal procedure when changing wheel bearings and it's such a lot of work ? Martin.
Hi Martin
The whole front suspension is stripped right down and being refurbished or replaced and when I took the first hub apart the stub axle came out easily so I just assumed that the otherside should do the same hence my original question.
After that is was a case of it was going to come apart like it or not!
Interestingly the old bearings were black due to running very hot not a problem I was aware of!
Derek
Hi Derek, thanks for that, I know what you mean, once started I refuse to give up ! If the bearings were black, there's a possibility the stub is damaged, especially if the inner tracks had been turning. Good luck, and above all else - enjoy. Martin.
Alternatively the bearings may have been tightened too much causing overheating. I always run them on the slack side, although MOT testers can complain about too much play.
