    Removing Accelarator Cable

Hello. Is there a way of removing the accelerator cable without having to remove the servo. I need to replace both the inner and outer cable. It looks like there is no option but to remove the servo, possible/maybe undo the four nuts and move the servo enough to get at the cable. Any ideas gratefully received.

    Hi Don,

Should be no need to move anything. Disconnect the cable at the engine end. It should be attached to the accelerator pedal with a spring clip. Pop this off and withdraw the inner into the car. The outer isthen free to remove.

      Hi Dave,

Many thanks for the information. The cable as fitted to my Stag has a "nipple" at each end ( 2.5 PI Engine fitted ) so while I could cut the end and pull the inner through when fitting the replacement I want to keep the "nipples" at each endon the cable. The outer part of thecable as fitted looks like it has a threaded part like on the carb end and that screws into the top of the pedal box. When I do stuff I always like to remove as little as possible, looks like I will have to remove the servo to get at it. What a bummer.

P.S. I do have a list of the DEVON AREA CALENDAR 2009 as supplied by David Taylor. I do intend to go to one of the get togethers as soon as possible just to show my face ( that could scare some ) but as I have advised in the past some of this is not for me ( whatever floats yer boat ). Honest, I am not an anti-social old fart.

If it helps anyone getting at the cable by removing the servo is easier than it looks, only took about half an hour. No need to completely remove the servo, just undo the four nuts next to the brake pedal, remove the clevis/pivot pin from the push rod to the brake pedal and the servo will move forwards enough to get a hand into the area, clutch master cylinder gets in the way but itcan be done, alsothe brake pipes clipped to the bulkhead need to be released to prevent to much strain on the brake pipes.

As Dave suggested normally you would just need to release the accelerator cable from the top of the pedal and pull out ( tie a peice of string to the old cable so you can tie it to the new one and pullthrough easy )but a previous owner had screwed in the outer cable into the hole in the bulkhead, I cannot see why someone would want to do it that way ?. Such fun !!!
