 Welcome Graham

I'm using non-standard tyres on standard wheels that give a good ride, with good handling, still fit under the arches and yet are more widely available (and the speedo isn't affected).

205/70-VR14s - I've currently got Falkens which are manufactured by Bridgestone.

If you are sticking to the standard size tyres, make sure they don't sell you van tyres as the car won't handle correctly

 Hi Graham

I fitted a set of Vredestein Sprint Classics 185/80 14 V rated, which was a close as I could get to the original Michelin mxv's.As the name suggests they're designed for classic car fitment. Haven't covered a huge mileage since , but initial impressions of comfort andgrip are very good.

As Russ says the majorityof 185/80 14 tyres available from the Kwik-Fits and the like are not available in the correct speed rating or are van tyres.

Sourced mine from Vintage Tyres (currently offering them on their website for £83.00). You'll need to get them fitted, but their service is excellent with next day delivery.

 Andy

 Hi Graham, and welcome.

 Just had 4 new 195/70 14"Goodyear GT2's including valve and balancing @ £55 + vat each.

They have tranformed the drive it's like driving a different car, well happy.

I've also had the uprated carb needles and springs (supplied by Tony Hart) installed, giives the car a bit more grunt......LUVERLY JUBBERLY

In May 2000 I purchased 4 tyres from Central Tyres in Colwyn Bay, North Wales at £52.10 each. They were/are - Courier Champion 185/70R14H and are still going strong today in Tenerife & show little sign of wear. They give good grip and feel on the road and I believe they are actually made by Pirrelli. See attached pic (the whitewalls are inserts and are no longer on the car).

Hi all, I've just got into a debate with a tyre " expert " that I had to walk away from. It's about sizes, if we take, for example 195/70- 14. am I correct in believing that the number 70, meansthe wall widthis 70% of the tread width ? thus the rolling radius is not much reduced from an 80 seriestyre. This is one of those things I've always known till someone tells me otherwise. Somebody reassure me I haven't lost it altogether :? Martin.
